Brad Grey, former Paramount Pictures Corp. chairman and chief executive, died of cancer Sunday night at his Holmby Hills home. He was 59.

“All of us at Paramount are deeply saddened by the news of Brad Grey’s passing,” Jim Gianopulos, Paramount’s current chairman and chief executive, said in a statement Monday. “He was at the helm of the studio for over a decade and was responsible for so many of the studio’s most beloved films … I was proud to call Brad a friend, and one I greatly admired. He will be missed by us all, and left his mark on our industry and in our hearts.”

Grey spent 12 years at the helm of Paramount Pictures. He was reportedly forced out of the post in February after the financially troubled studio suffered several film flops. In 2016, the studio saw only one movie, “Star Trek Beyond,” exceed $100 million in domestic box office. Gianopolus, the former chairman and chief executive of Fox Filmed Entertainment Group, assumed the post in March.

Grey, a former talent manager and TV producer, began his entertainment career by connecting with Miramax founder Harvey Weinstein, whom he aided in his concert promotion business.

Making a splash in comedy, Grey helped discover Bob Saget and partnered with manager and producer Bernie Brillstein, whose Bernie Brillstein Co. became Brillstein-Grey Entertainment. Grey went on to produce Showtime’s hit “It’s Gary Shandling’s Show” and HBO’s “The Larry Sanders Show.” The two parted ways in the late 1990s, suing each other over contract issues.

In 2002, Grey formed Beverly Hills production company Plan B with Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston.

Grey is survived by wife Cassandra Grey, their son Jules, his children Sam, Max, and Emily from a previous marriage.
