Two economic surveys released Wednesday show there’s plenty of holiday cheer to go around.
California consumer confidence jumped 12.4 points to 101 during the fourth quarter, its highest level in two years, according to a survey from Chapman University in Orange. Consumers seemed especially ready to spend on big-ticket items.
A year ago, the index stood at just 80; a reading above 100 indicates overall consumer optimism.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Employment Index from national recruiting firm Hudson Highland Group jumped 8.1 points to 109.3 in November as layoff concerns eased and nearly one-third of those surveyed said their employers were in a hiring mode. The index is at its highest level since Dec. 2005 and is considerably higher than the national average of 105.3.
Last November, the Hudson index stood at 106.4. A reading above 100 indicates optimism about the economy and personal finances.
