College District Grants Contracts

The Los Angeles Community College District on Friday announced it has awarded nearly $80 million in construction contracts for upgrades at three of its nine campuses.

The largest contract $62.9 million was awarded to San Diego-based Harper Construction Co. for various campus improvements at Los Angeles Southwest College in the Athens district of Los Angeles County. Among the projects: a student activities center, a field house and stadium and a 500-car parking structure.

The other major contract was for $16.6 million and has been awarded to Tarzana-based Sinanian Development Inc. for a new library at Los Angeles City College.

Funding for all the contracts awarded will come from $2.2 billion in bond measures passed by voters in 2001 and 2003.
