StoryCo has launched its first collaborative show, with a cast led by Stephanie Beatriz and Costa Ronin.
The Pasadena media technology company said on Nov. 14 that the first chapter of “The Disco Ball” is available on the StoryCo platform.
The story’s multi-chapter arc will unfold over the next several months as creators from around the globe expand and extend the story world alongside its chief creators, the company said.
“The Disco Ball” follows Captain Alma Cooke (Beatriz) and her team of astronauts on the International Space Station.
The collaborative content stars Beatriz (“Brooklyn Nine Nine” and “Encanto”) and Ronin (“The Americans” and “Homeland”) with supporting performances by Lionel Boyce (“The Bear”), Teddy Sears (“The Flash,” “Masters of Sex”) and Tik Tok personality Baron Ryan.
J.P. Alanís, co-founder of StoryCo, said that he and his brother Justin Alanís are thrilled to partner with some of the best talent working in Hollywood today to build out a unique storytelling experience.
“We are creating a new kind of entertainment content that is participatory, one that enables consumers to engage more deeply, and empowers creators to lend their unique talents to expand the story world,” J.P. Alanís said in a statement.
“Disco Ball” was created by showrunner Kyle Killen, who developed the series “Halo” for Paramount Plus, and illustrated by brothers Shelby and Sandy Murphy, two locally based pop artists.
“‘The Disco Ball’ represents a new way to engage with fictional characters and worlds,” Killen said. “It’s an experience that leans into modern technology and all the powerful ways in which it can seamlessly aid global community, human connection, and the sharing of ideas.”
Justin Alanís, co-founder of the company, said that it is creating a new paradigm of intellectual property participation.
“It will unlock the potential of creators from around the globe, allowing anyone to contribute to the creative process and rewarding them through profit-participation in the franchise,” Justin Alanís said in a statement.
The company is currently working with other independent creators, Hollywood studios, and existing intellectual property owners to develop new, exciting, participatory entertainment content for the platform, StoryCo said.
