Aircraft leasing company International Lease Finance Corp. announced on Monday it had agreed to purchase and lease 16 Boeing jet aircraft to American Airlines.

ILFC in Century City will purchase 15 B737-800 aircraft and 1 B777-300ER aircraft from Boeing Co. of Chicago. The B737 aircraft are scheduled for delivery before December 2014. The B777 widebody aircraft is set to deliver later this month.

No financial terms of the deal were disclosed. However, Boeing’s web site lists the 2012 price of a 737-800 aircraft at $89 million and the 777-300ER aircraft at $315 million. At those prices, the deal announced Monday would be worth about $1.65 billion.

“This new agreement is another important achievement in ILFC’s efforts to complement its order book opportunistically with sale-leaseback transactions,” ILFC Chief Executive Henri Courpron said.

In 2011, ILFC purchased 15 B737-800 aircraft from Boeing for lease to American Airlines. Those aircraft were delivered by the end of last year and all are currently operating.
