Venable Blue Expands
Duo: Venable's Simrin Hooper, left, and Hemu Nigam.

Months after formally launching, a consulting service based out of Venable LLP’s office in Century City has now expanded to other major business hubs in the nation.

Venable Blue offers companion consulting services on internet security and compliance alongside the firm’s legal practice. Formed by partner Hemu Nigam and Senior Director Simrin Hooper, the service now has operatives based in San Francisco, New York and Washington, D.C., and has grown to around 30 people. The pair joined Venable in 2021.

“If you have any kind of online presence, you are at some point going to face some kind of risk,” Nigam explained. “We come in to help clients, whether they are companies or people, to mitigate that risk or eliminate it altogether.”

Venable Blue’s services include building and deploying systems that integrate into a client’s online presence and help secure web operations from intruders.

The services also help clients meet regulatory compliance in matters such as human rights, child safety and privacy.

“Every brick-and-mortar organization will at some point have an online presence, which means you’ll need to at some point mitigate a problem or prevent it before it even takes place,” Nigam said.

Before joining Venable, Nigam ran a business, SSP Blue, that did the same work – so it was easy to adapt it to the firm’s practice when Venable’s leadership asked him to.

“Venable has long been a trusted partner and counsel to companies seeking to innovate and grow by leveraging new technology,” said Chairman Stu Ingis in a statement. “As the pace of business and societal expectations continue to evolve, Venable Blue will build on this rich history and enhance our ability to meet the emerging needs of our clients.”
