Westchester law firm Liebert Cassidy Whitmore in October kicked off a leadership succession plan by shifting in Melanie Chaney as the firmwide co-managing partner.
Chaney will split duties with Scott Tiedemann, who has held the job solo for 14 years and will relinquish the full position to her next October. She was previously the managing partner of the headquarters office.
Under Tiedemann’s leadership the firm has seen significant growth in terms of attorney headcount, its practice groups and legal successes. He plans to renew his focus on his public employers practice within the firm. Chaney will be the firm’s fourth managing partner and its second woman in the role.
“Scott’s impact on the firm has been profound and far-reaching,” Chaney said in a statement. “I am deeply honored to step into this role alongside him and am excited to build upon the legacy of excellence that (inaugural managing partner) John Liebert initiated, (second managing partner) Melanie Poturica advanced and Scott has so effectively amplified.”
LCW is a management-side law firm that primarily works with public agencies, educational institutions and nonprofits.
A seasoned litigator, Chaney’s expertise with the firm covers a variety of public education institutions and public employers, including in labor relations and workplace investigations. The firm in its announcement also hailed Chaney’s leadership of the Los Angeles office and her strength in fostering an inclusive workplace culture and providing constructive feedback to her team.
Tiedemann said he was “delighted” to eventually cede his role to Chaney.
“Her exceptional leadership prowess and innovative vision make her the ideal choice to guide the firm into a bright future,” he said in a statement. “I have full confidence in her ability to elevate LCW to even greater heights, and I look forward to supporting the firm’s continued success through my legal practice.”
