Shanks is the chief executive and executive producer at Fox Sports. In that role, he leads all entities tied to Fox Sports, including the sports television arm. He oversees everything from programming to marketing to studio operations. Shanks took the role in 2010 when he was just 38 years old, making him the youngest executive to ever lead a broadcast network sports division, according to Fox. He initially joined the company in 1994 as a broadcast associate and worked his way up. He was part of the record $8 billion TV deal for the Big Ten Conference. Shanks was named Sports Business Journal’s 2023 Sports Executive of the Year and is a member of its “40 Under 40” Hall of Fame. He has won more than 20 Sports Emmy Awards and is the holder of 11 U.S. patents. Shanks is the former chair of the United States Football League. The group, which was owned by Fox Sports, merged with the XFL and became known as the United Football League. The UFL started playing games in March.
