Kaplan has served as the chief executive, president and board member of Douglas Emmett since its founding in 1971. He joined the company’s predecessor operating companies in 1986, cofounded its immediate predecessor in 1991, and served as chief financial officer for its operating companies from 1991 to 2006. Douglas Emmet is a provider of Class-A office properties and luxury apartment communities across Southern California and Honolulu. Its office portfolio spans approximately 18 million rentable square feet, and its multifamily portfolio encompasses over 4,800 apartment units. With headquarters in Santa Monica, the company has a special focus on the Brentwood, Century City, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Sawtelle, Westwood, Sherman Oaks, Woodland Hills and Burbank submarkets.
