LA500 2024: David Schwartzman

President, Chief Executive, Harridge Development Group

Schwartzman serves as the president and chief executive of Harridge Development Group, which he founded in 2010 with the goal of developing on vacant or underutilized assets. He started as a homebuilder. Today, the company owns about 4,900 for sale lots across Los Angeles, Ventura and Orange counties. It is developing another 1,300 units as build to rent townhouses. This is in addition to its apartment company, which currently has about 2,600 units in the pipeline. In total, Harridge Development Group owns over 1 million square feet in Los Angeles County.

What’s the best advice you ever got?
The best advice I ever got is, “to succeed in life, you have to experience failure.

What’s your favorite movie, all time and in any category?
A tie between “Raiders of the Los Ark” and “Money Never Sleeps.”

What’s at the top of your bucket list?
I would like to hike Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

What’s the best thing about living in Los Angeles?
The best thing about living in Los Angeles is the weather and the ability to do so many different activities with my wife and family. Also, some of the greatest people I have met are Angelenos.

And the worst?
The worst thing about Los Angeles is the crime and the worsening public safety that people feel everyday living here. This is a situation that can be reversed. People have to truly consider whom they vote for.
