Murdoch has helped navigate his two traditional media giants through the digital age so far. The 52-year-old Murdoch, however, experienced a setback when shareholders of publisher News Corp. and TV, newspaper and book conglomerate Fox Corp. gave an informal thumbs-down to a merger proposal in January of last year, so the companies remain separate. Also last year, Fox News was dogged by a libel lawsuit from a voting machine company in which the company reached a settlement to pay $787 million, and faced the contentious ouster of talk show host Tucker Carlson. Fox bolsters its legacy TV channel and program businesses with Tubi, which is a leader of the burgeoning ad-supported video streaming sector. The Fox movie studio was sold in 2019 to The Walt Disney Co.
