LA500 2024: David Zaslav

President, Chief Executive, Warner Bros. Discovery

Zaslav directs his Warner Bros. studio to license library content to streaming competitors instead of keeping it in-house and pushing profits over market share, including at streamer Max. Zaslav faces headwinds of a weak advertising sales climate and having to slash a burdensome $50 billion in gross debt, which piled up when his Discovery merged with Warner Media two years ago. Formerly head of reality TV giant Discovery since 2007, Zaslav is a protege of famed media investor John Malone. He was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame in 2017 and was a member of the Cable TV Pioneers Class of 2018. He is a recipient of the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Award, the UJA-Federation of New York’s Steven J. Ross Humanitarian Award and Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications Fred Dressler Leadership Award. Zaslav serves on the boards of American Cinematheque, Sirius XM Radio, Inc., and Grupo Televisa. He also is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Paley Center for Media, and Syracuse University.
