Spear co-founded Figs with Heather Hasson in 2013. The brand sells 98% of its products through its website and mobile app. Figs scrubs for medical workers are made with a proprietary fabric called FIONx that claims four-way stretch, anti-odor, anti-wrinkle and moisture-wicking properties, along with zippered pockets to store stethoscopes and the like. Figs has more than 300 employees and outsources its garment manufacturing operations to factories in Southeast Asia, China and South America. Prior to co-founding Figs, Spear served as an associate at the Blackstone Group Inc. in the firm’s hedge fund group. The company’s revenue last year added up to $546 million, a nearly 8% increase compared to 2022. Through its Threads for Threads initiative, Figs has donated nearly 550,000 sets of scrubs to health care professionals around the world.
