Chief Executive, Chair, Trader Joe’s Co.
Palbaum was named chief executive and chair of grocery chain Trader Joe’s Co. almost a year ago. He replaced Dan Bane who retired after more than 20 years at the helm of the company. At the time his appointment was announced, Palbaum had been with Trader Joe’s for more than 20 years, and for the last 10 he had been its president and chief operating officer. The leadership transition came as Trader Joe’s faced efforts by employees to unionize at several of its locations. In February of last year, the company challenged the formation of a union at a store in Louisville, Kentucky, claiming that union supporters created “an atmosphere of fear and coercion” that interfered with the validity of the election.
