Chu, a partner with Century City firm Irell & Manella and chair of the firm’s litigation group, has obtained more than $9 billion in actual payments for clients. He serves as chair of both the City of Hope National Medical Center Board of Directors and the City of Hope Medical Foundation Board. Chu is also a member of the board of directors and executive committee of Public Counsel, the nation’s largest pro bono public interest law firm.
What’s the best advice you ever got? Be yourself. This is the same advice I give to young people. Learn from others, but in the end be yourself.
What’s your favorite movie, all time and in any category? “Lawrence of Arabia.”
What’s at the top of your bucket list? Number One: Don’t kick the bucket. When I see the bucket, I walk around it, staying far away.
What was your first car? Old MGB with a manual roof top that did not work and a hot exhaust manifold under the driver’s floorboard making it impossible to drive barefooted.
