LA500 2024: James “Jim” Yukevich

Founder, Yukevich | Cavanaugh

Yukevich, the founder of downtown-based Yukevich Cavanaugh, recently successfully defended American Honda Motor Co. in a $32.5 million lawsuit that challenged the consumer expectations test’s boundaries as defined by a 2014 appellate ruling. Overall, his case success rate exceeds 90% and he has amassed a multitude of Top 20 Defense Verdict recognitions. For 20 years, he has supported the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank; in just the last two, he helped raise more than $600,000 to provide more than 2.4 million meals. Having started his firm as a breakaway from a New York operation, Yukevich has since grown the firm to 33 attorneys in four offices in California.

What’s the best advice you ever got? Business: Do not write or do anything you wouldn’t want on the front page of the New York Times. Personal: Take good care of your family and try to help those who are less fortunate.

What’s your favorite movie, all time and in any category? “My Cousin Vinny” and “Top Gun.”

What’s at the top of your bucket list? Go to Egypt and see the pyramids and Valley of the Kings. What was your first car? 1971 Pontiac GTO Convertible.

Like to have it back? I ran that car into the ground, but I bought and restored another 1971 GTO Convertible to like-new condition.

What’s the best thing about living in Los Angeles? The people, the weather and the endless things to do and experience.
