LA500 2024: Angela Agrusa

Los Angeles, Managing Partner, DLA Piper

Agrusa, the managing partner of global law firm DLA Piper’s Los Angeles office, is one of a handful of attorneys in this country hired to defend clients in “bet-the-brand litigation” and in cases where the “court of public opinion” is a factor. Under her stewardship, DLA Piper’s downtown and Century City operations have grown to 120 lawyers. She serves on the boards of Loyola Law School and Los Angeles-based Public Counsel, the largest pro bono law firm in the nation.

What’s your favorite movie, all time and in any category? As a girl, I was a huge fan of the black-and-white classics. If Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy were in it, I’d watch it. As an undergrad, my UCLA study breaks often included a trek to The Silent Movie Theatre in the Fairfax District. I eventually grew to love modern film and am a sucker for a good underdog story. Some of my favorites are “The Godfather” (yes, I think Michael Corleone was the underdog), “My Cousin Vinny” and “Bring It On.”

What was your first car? A 1962 metallic blue Ford Pinto with pony interior. She was a beauty, but I had to sit on a pillow to reach the petals. My dad and I went halfsies on it. I worked at Clothestime to save $1,200 for my share.

Like to have it back? Me, not so much, but my sons would!

What’s the best thing about living in Los Angeles? Whatever your interest, you can find something to meet it in L.A. We are a melting pot of culture, politics, sports, fun and food. I am never bored here.
