LA500 2024: Thomas Rosenbaum

President, Caltech

Rosenbaum, a professor of physics, is the ninth president of the California Institute of Technology and a professor of physics. Caltech has nearly 2,400 students and 900 professional faculty and research scholars. The university also runs the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Altadena. Rosenbaum has conducted research at Bell Laboratories, IBM Watson Research Center and the University of Chicago. He received his bachelor’s in physics with honors from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in physics from Princeton University. He is on the Society for Science & the Public’s board and is a general member of the Aspen Center for Physics and the American Academy of Arts & Sciences Los Angeles Program Committee.
