Mejia, a certified public accountant and community activist, has served as the city’s auditor and chief accounting officer since 2022. As the city controller, Mejia oversees a team of more than 160 employees who conduct independent audits and investigations, manage the city’s accounting, payroll and spending and report on its finances, operations, policies and data. He is the city’s first Filipino American elected official and the first Asian American to hold a citywide elected office in L.A.
