Chief Executive, Magic Johnson Foundation
Johnson started his nonprofit in 1991, the year he stopped playing in the NBA for the Lakers because of his HIV diagnosis. The foundation continues to address the educational, health and social needs of ethnically diverse and underserved urban communities in Los Angeles. Johnson’s part-ownership of the MLB’s Dodgers, Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Football Club, the WNBA Sparks and esports franchise Team Liquid continues to give him a high networking profile in the sports business landscape. Last year, he became co-owner of the NFL’s Washington Commanders in a $6.05 billion deal, which marks the highest purchase price for any U.S. professional sports team to date. In 2013, Magic Johnson Enterprises collaborated with Loop Capital to create a 100% minority-owned investment firm MJE-Loop Capital Partners.
