A well-known labor leader, Huerta looks out for the welfare of service workers primarily in the commercial real estate industry – security officers, airport workers, janitors and more. Many were hit hard from the pandemic with loss of lives and income. Under Huerta’s leadership, hundreds of SEIU-USWW members have become U.S. citizens. In 2022, Huerta gained the title of president of the SEIU California to oversee legislative work in the state capital. Huerta and many SEIU-USWW members joined striking members of the Writer’s Guild of America on the picket lines of last year’s strikes to protest the alleged layoffs of janitors during Hollywood’s lengthy work stoppage.
