Friedman co-founded the hedge fund Canyon Partners in 1990. Before that, he was director of capital markets for high-yield and private placements at Drexel Burnham Lambert Group Inc. Before Drexel, he worked in the mergers and acquisitions department of Goldman Sachs. He is a graduate of Harvard College, Oxford University, Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School. Friedman serves on numerous boards and investment committees for endowments and foundations, including Harvard Management Co., CalTech, the UCLA Anderson School of Management The Broad Foundation, the J. Paul Getty Trust, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
