In 2005 McGovern founded Marlin Equity Partnersa Hermosa Beach-based investment firm with approximately $9 billion in capital commitments. He is involved in directing the firm’s strategy and oversees all investment and portfolio-related decisions. During the dot com boom, he transitioned into private equity focusing on the tech industry. He led the acquisition of the Learning Company from Mattel in 2000, as well as Hewlett-Packard’s sale of Verifone. To date, the firm has invested in almost 180 companies. Prior to working in private equity, McGovern was a senior investment banker at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and an attorney at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University.
