Philanthropist, Past Chair, Cedars-Sinai Foundation
Guerin, the former chair of the Cedars-Sinai Foundation, is a well known philanthropist and billionaire. One of her most notable donations came in 2021 when she gave $100 million through her Shapell Guerin Family Foundation to establish a 26-bed children’s care facility at Cedars-Sinai’s main Beverly Grove campus. It has since opened. She also donated money to create the Vera and Paul Guerin Family Congenital Heart Program, as well as two chairs in pulmonary medicine and pediatric neurosurgery. Last year she was No. 41 on the Business Journal’s Wealthiest Angelenos list with a net worth of roughly $2 billion. She inherited most of her wealth from her late father, Nathan Shapell, after he left her a 43% stake in his homebuilding company, Shapell Industries. Shapell Industries was purchased for $1.6 billion in 2013 by Pennsylvania-based homebuilding company Toll Brothers.
