Pasadena-based infrastructure-services firm Tetra Tech Inc. has received a five-year contract from Ireland’s main water utility to support the utility’s forthcoming capital investment program.

The contract was announced late last month; financial terms were not disclosed.

Uisce Éireann, Ireland’s national water utility, delivers water and wastewater services to 80% of the nation’s population of about 5 million.

Tetra Tech inherited a 10-year business relationship with Uisce Éireann when it purchased Abingdon-on-Thames, United Kingdom-based RPS Group last year for $691 million. RPS had extensive environmental and infrastructure services contracts throughout the United Kingdom as well as the rest of the European Union countries and Australia.

Under this five-year framework with Uisce Éireann, Tetra Tech and its engineers will provide technical-support services to improve compliance with environmental standards and promote conservation of water resources. Tetra Tech will also assess critical infrastructure to help prioritize future maintenance and investment decisions that are aligned with Ireland’s national planning and climate change policies.

“Our RPS operations in Ireland have provided Uisce Éireann with technical support and critical infrastructure design services for a decade,” Dan Batrack, Tetra Tech’s chief executive, said in the Nov. 28 announcement of the contract. “We look forward to incorporating the latest technologies to help Uisce Éireann continue the delivery of secure, safe, and sustainable water services for the people of Ireland.”

This is the third significant contract announcement for Tetra Tech involving the RPS unit since the acquisition closed in January.

In June, Scottish Water, Scotland’s publicly-owned water utility, awarded Tetra Tech’s RPS unit an eight-year contract worth about $75 million to provide comprehensive asset-management services. The work includes reporting on the condition of more than 2,500 Scottish Water assets annually.

Then in August, the RPS unit won a three-year contract worth about $15 million from Floatation Energy, an offshore wind-farm developer owned by the Japanese utility Tokyo Electric Power Co.

Flotation Energy is developing a $6.5 billion, 1,500-megawatt wind farm about 20 miles off the coast of the Gippsland region of the Australian state of Victoria. Tetra Tech is to assess marine environmental conditions in preparation for the project development.
