MAG USA Acquires Airport Parking Companies
MAG buys Santa Monicabased airport parking companies.

Santa Monica-based airport parking companies AirportParkingReservations.com Inc. and ParkSleepFly Inc. have been acquired by MAG USA, the U.S. arm of British airport operator Manchester Airports Group.

Terms of the deal, which was announced June 23, were not disclosed.

“I am excited about joining the MAG USA family,” said Carlos Chilin, general manager of AirportParkingReservations.com and ParkSleepFly.com. “I am very proud of what the team has accomplished to date and am looking forward to what we can accomplish together. This partnership will allow us to accelerate our goals to continue to improve the airport experience for travelers.”

AirportParkingReservations.com, founded in 2000, and ParkSleepFly.com, founded in 2003, are separate companies operated by the same team, which consists of 27 employees, according to Chilin.

AirportParkingReservations.com offers a digital platform for users to book parking spots in structures near airports, which are usually more affordable than parking at the airport.

ParkSleepFly.com offers hotel and parking packages for customers who don’t want to drive before or after a late flight or a long trip.

The companies take a commission from the parking and hotel operators.

The two companies have relationships with more than 1,000 parking and hotel operators in the United States and Canada. The platforms allow passengers to book parking and hotel stays at more than 90% of airports nationally, according to MAG.

Chilin expects demand for airport parking to increase because more consumers will drive their own cars instead of taking ride share services and public transportation due to concerns over Covid-19.

“There are a lot of facilities in and around the airport that are really affordable. (By driving to the airport) you can control your environment a lot better than jumping on an Uber, which could almost be the same cost as parking at one of the facilities that we work with,” Chilin said.

“We know the great service and coverage that these businesses have built up over the last 20 years and together they will complement our growing MAG USA commercial services business,” MAG USA Chief Executive Martin Jones said in a statement.

“We are very excited to have Carlos and the team join the MAG USA family. The U.S. market is a strategic focus for MAG’s international growth and we’re all looking forward to the journey ahead of us as the aviation market rebounds,” Jones added.
