El Segundo-based electric vehicle charging infrastructure company EVgo Inc. is expanding its partnership with Jacksonville, Florida-based shopping center developer and owner Regency Centers Corp. to add more than 400 fast-charging stalls at Regency centers across the country.
The two parties first partnered on building electric vehicle charging facilities in 2020, resulting in EVgo installing roughly 150 charging stalls at Regency Centers locations.
This new agreement, announced Sept. 9, calls for EVgo to install and operate up to 24 high-power chargers in parking lots at an unspecified number of Regency Center locations. That includes in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia. Most of the Regency Center locations are anchored by a major grocery store.
Fast-charging times
Each EVgo charging pump installed will be capable of delivering a full charge in as little as 15 minutes, depending on the electric vehicle make and model.
The announcement notes that this fast-charging time fits with grocery store locations. It cited a Food Institute statistic that grocery shoppers spend on average about 23 minutes per visit.
“EV drivers are looking for convenient charging options where they already spend their time, like grocery-anchored shopping centers,” Scott Levitan, EVgo’s executive vice president of growth, said in a statement.
No dollar figure was given on how much it will cost to install the 400 new EV fast-charging stalls.
