Santa Monica-based prescription medication discount provider GoodRx Holdings Inc. wants its customers and other medication consumers to know that its discount programs are good for Fido, too.

On Jan. 7, GoodRx announced the launch of its GoodRx for Pets portal enabling customers to get the same levels of discounts on prescription pet medications as they have prescription meds for humans.

The company simultaneously announced a partnership with Allivet, the Miami Lakes, Florida subsidiary of Brentwood, Tennessee -based Tractor Supply Co., to deliver those discount pet medications straight to the customer’s door.

But any jubilation among pet-owning investors in GoodRx stock was temporarily interrupted when on Jan. 13, news emerged of a GoodRx filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that the company’s chief financial officer, Karsten Voermann, announced his resignation on Jan. 7 after nearly five years in the post. The board on Jan. 10 named Romin Nabiey, the company’s chief accounting officer, as interim chief financial officer.

The news, which came a week after veteran pharmacy benefit manager executive Wendy Barnes took over as the company’s chief executive, sent shares down 7% on Jan. 13. But the dip was temporary; on Jan. 17, the share price climbed all the way back, closing at $4.57, just above the Jan. 10 close.

GoodRx for Pets

GoodRx customers have been able to get discounts on pet medications for years, but always on an ad hoc basis as there was no organized portal around pet medications. It has helped that many pet medications are also used for humans. But because of the lack of marketing, some customers may not have known about the potential savings.

“Pet owners have been using GoodRx for years to save on medications for their beloved pets for conditions like anxiety and seizures – to the tune of several million prescriptions per year,” said Aaron Crittenden, senior vice president of Rx Marketplace for GoodRx. “It’s a pretty strong signal of value when people use your platform for something you haven’t actively pursued. So, we decided to build a focused experience for pet owners with a broader range of medications, more savings, and easy access through both pharmacies and home delivery.”

Besides the discount programs, the GoodRx for Pets portal offers articles and videos on pet health.
