Aysegul Gogus, PhD, PE, SE, a seismic expert with more than 10 years of structural engineering experience, joins HGA as Associate VP and Associate Principal in Structural Engineering. A specialist in the seismic assessment and retrofit of existing buildings, seismic design of reinforced concrete and steel structures and performance-based seismic design, she will work closely with engineering teams located in HGA’s 12 offices nationwide.

Gogus will maintain a focus on projects within the earthquake-prone West Coast, particularly the greater Los Angeles region. She’ll also champion firmwide efforts to expand in-house seismic services, adding new capabilities and further building HGA’s reputation as a national seismic design leader.

“I’m excited to collaborate across HGA’s team of architecture, engineering and design leaders as we increase our national profile in seismic engineering,” Gogus said. “HGA is known for its interdisciplinary design processes. Adding further seismic specialties will provide even greater benefit to our clients to sustain the long-term structural integrity of buildings and complex infrastructure.” 

In addition to engaging a wide-ranging seismic design portfolio—including projects within the arts, culture, aviation, education, government, commercial, hospitality and infrastructure markets—Gogus has contributed her expertise to increase industry knowledge through academic research, speaking engagements and national committee work on seismic topics. As a result, she was named in Civil + Structural Engineer magazine’s 2020 Rising Stars in Structural.

Gogus is a member of the American Concrete Institute, American Society of Civil Engineers, Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and Structural Engineers Association of California.
