THOMAS POON, PH.D. LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY
Thomas Poon, Ph.D., was unanimously elected the 17th president of Loyola Marymount University by the LMU Board of Trustees. President-elect Poon has served as LMU’s executive vice president and provost since 2017, shaping nearly every aspect of academic life. Under his leadership, LMU was reclassified as a national, high-research, comprehensive university; increased support for research and creative work by more than 80%; and expanded faculty diversity, earning federal designations as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander–Serving Institution (AANAPISI). With a bold, inclusive vision and an unwavering commitment to LMU’s Catholic mission in the Jesuit and Marymount traditions, Poon is ideally positioned to lead LMU forward — extending the university’s reach, accelerating philanthropic momentum, and championing student and faculty innovation. He succeeds LMU President Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D., and begins his tenure on June 1, 2025.
