Ahighly accomplished researcher, educator and advocate for student success, Burçin Becerik-Gerber has made significant contributions to engineering and engineering education. She is currently professor and chair of the Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Southern California and the founding director of the Innovation in Integrated Informatics LAB and the Center for Intelligent Environments (CENTIENTS).
Becerik-Gerber’s research focuses on the intersection of technology and the built environment, with particular emphasis on the use of sensing and data analytics to improve the performance and sustainability of buildings and infrastructure, not only from an engineering perspective but also from a user point of view. She has pioneered Human-Building Interaction (HBI), an emerging field that examines how people interact with the built environment. Becerik-Gerber’s work has been widely recognized for its innovative approach and impact on the field.
