Matthew Umhofer has been recognized for initiating and litigating a landmark case on behalf of unhoused individuals and advocates, resulting in a preliminary injunction and a final settlement compelling a $4 billion increase in funding for critical shelter, housing, and supportive services in LA. Umhofer won the prestigious California Lawyer Attorney of the Year Award in 2024 for securing transformative outcomes to address homelessness in LA, including funding for 20,000 new beds and expanded mental health and substance-use disorder services.
In 2025, Umhofer and his firm continued to pressure the city and county through high-impact litigation. Additionally, Umhofer has served as president of the Dwight D. Opperman Foundation since 2000.
