Michael K. Brown is a partner at Reed Smith and has been a “go to” trial lawyer, litigator and strategist who has helped shape drug and device law, particularly in the mass tort and medical device federal preemption context for more than 40 years.
Brown is renowned for handling complex product liability and commercial cases, including class actions, mass torts, MDLs and unfair competition and false advertising claims. Clients for whom he has had significant roles include Pfizer, Merck, GSK, Medtronic and C.R. Bard/Becton Dickinson. Currently as co-national coordinating and trial counsel for Bard in the hernia mesh litigation, Brown is handling an MDL pending in the Southern District of Ohio with more than 20,000 cases. Bard’s first bellwether trial in the Ohio MDL began in 2021, with Brown successfully trying the case for the defendants, and the jury rejecting all product liability claims and awarding zero damages.
