S. Thomas Carmichael, Jr., MD, PhD is a neurologist and neuroscientist with active laboratory and clinical interests in stroke and neurorehabilitation, and how the brain repairs from injury. He has translated his findings in the research lab to multi-site clinical trials and led NIH and national policy summits to move his field forward. As chair of the Department of Neurology, Dr. Carmichael oversees 150 faculty, 550 staff and the annual operating budget. He is annual meeting chair of the American Neurological Association, and past president of the American Society for Neurorehabilitation.
