Through his clinical work, Nicholas Bernthal, MD has developed one of the most sought-after pediatric bone sarcoma practices in the United States. He leads a multi-disciplinary team of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, social workers, and therapists to care for patients in a coordinated, optimized fashion. As department chair, he has initiated a program in adaptive sports which addresses often overlooked equity issues for those with physical disabilities. Dr. Bernthal’s research focuses on orthopaedic implant infection and immunology, translational sarcoma biology, and functional outcomes of endoprosthetic implants. He also founded the UCLA Global Orthopaedic Initiative.
