Two verdicts define Nguyen’s past year. First, a $1 million jury verdict in a whistleblower retaliation case where a structural engineer, who had been terminated after reporting serious classroom safety violations. The jury found the termination directly tied to his disclosures. Second, a $4.1 million jury verdict in Whithorn v. City of West Covina for a 28 year fire chief terminated after taking medical leave, with testimony at trial revealing city officials and a councilmember conspired to have him fired.
