Last week, Thousand Oaks-based California Lutheran University named John Nunes as its ninth president. He had been the school’s interim president since June. He assumes the new role on June 1.
“Dr. Nunes has demonstrated his commitment to Cal Lutheran’s mission and our students every single day since his appointment as interim president, and the board is excited to have him join us on a longer-term basis,” said Board of Regents Chair Ann Boynton. “This is a challenging time for higher education, and the need for committed leadership has never been greater.”
Prior to joining California Lutheran, his roles include president of Concordia College New York. He has more than three decades of leadership experience and since 2020 has served on the Council of Independent Colleges’ Campus Free Expression Project.

Veteran commercial real estate broker Jason Cole this month joined Kidder Mathews as its senior vice president of the San Fernando Valley office in Sherman Oaks.
The jump leaves him in familiar territory. Since 2023, Cole was vice president of investments at Marcus & Millichap, based in Calabasas. And prior to that, he clocked in more than 13 years as managing director at the Sherman Oaks location of Beverly Hills-based Commercial Asset Group Inc.
“I’m excited to join Kidder Mathews and be part of an independent, entrepreneurial platform with strong momentum in the Southern California market,” Cole said in a statement. “The firm’s collaborative culture and deep bench of expertise are a great fit for the next chapter of my career.”
Cole also spent nearly five years at downtown-based Charles Dunn Co. as an associate.
“Jason is a seasoned professional with a proven ability to navigate complex deals,” said Darren Tappen, regional president of brokerage at Kidder Mathews. “He’s also a perfect cultural fit for our collaborative, entrepreneurial platform – and exactly the kind of high-caliber talent we’re continuing to attract in Greater L.A.”
