LABJ Insider: AJC Honors Local Attorney

Attorney Stacy Phillips of Blank Rome was awarded the Judge Learned Hand Award by the American Jewish Committee last week.

Attorney Stacy Phillips, a prominent family law practitioner with the local Blank Rome outpost, was awarded the Judge Learned Hand Award by the American Jewish Committee last week.

Phillips received the award at AJC’s celebration at Skirball Cultural Center. She was bestowed the honor by her former boss and past award recipient Alan Hoffman.

The award is meant to recognize attorneys for their professional achievements and community service toward justice, done with integrity and in advance of public service.

Phillips previously chaired Public Counsel, the largest pro-bono law firm in the nation, and assisted in drafting California’s state law extending the time domestic violence victims have to bring civil claims against their abusers. She also founded the Adopt-A-Center-Program, which mentors L.A.-area charitable organizations.

The event also served as a fundraiser, to the tune of $900,000, which will be earmarked to combat antisemitism and other forms of hate, as well as support AJC’s mission to promote democratic values.

“I stand shoulder-to-shoulder with AJC’s mission to fight all forms of hatred,” Phillips said. “I hope we all agree that there is no place in this world for antisemitism, racism, homophobia, Islamophobia or any other form of hatred.”

As the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games continue prep work, the LA28 Committee has brought on additional local partners.

Chicago-based Sidley Austin – whose Greater L.A. operation, with more than 130 attorneys, is one of the largest law offices in the county – was named among the LA28 official legal services providers last week.

That role also makes it a services provider for Team USA.

“As an Angeleno, there’s nothing more exciting than seeing the world turn its eyes to our city, we’ve been fortunate to support LA28 for more than a decade,” said Dan Clivner, a member of Sidley’s executive committee and managing partner of the L.A. operation.
