The UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs received a $2.5 million gift to support its new Master of Real Estate Development program.
The donation was made by Jeffrey Jaeger and Scott Alter, who are co-founders of Century City-based Standard Communities. It will fund a tract within the MRED program titled the UCLA Jaeger Alter Standard Communities Affordable Housing Program, through which students will earn a Certificate in Affordable Housing.
“This enduring gift enables us to develop new coursework focused on innovative approaches to building affordable housing – drawing on emerging capital market solutions that can scale production far beyond what traditional public subsidies can support,” said Greg Morrow, executive director of the UCLA MRED program, in a statement. “Through this effort, UCLA MRED is helping to pioneer new ways of addressing the affordable housing crisis.”
The MRED program launched this fall as a one-year graduate program designed to give students experience in housing development with consideration to affordability and sustainability issues. Standard Communities focuses on affordable workforce housing projects.
“We’ve seen firsthand how access to safe, stable, dignified, affordable housing can transform lives,” Alter said in a statement. “This gift is an investment in the leaders who will emerge from the UCLA MRED program and will carry that mission forward – building stronger, more resilient communities for generations to come.”

The Getty Foundation last week announced the appointment of Director Joan Weinstein as vice president of Getty-wide program planning.
The newly created role will have Weinstein develop strategy across the Getty’s museum, research institute, conservation institute and the foundation itself. Weinstein previously helped develop the Getty’s PST ART event, which is a collaboration with more than 70 cultural organizations every five years to create specialized art exhibitions.
“I’m deeply honored to serve in this new role and look forward to working even more closely with talented staff across Getty,” Weinstein said in a statement.
