LABJ Insider: MiQ Names L.A. Managing Director

Global adtech firm MiQ last week announced the hiring of Andy Barnet as the company’s new managing director of its West Region.

In this role, Barnet will oversee the London-based company’s operations in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Nevada. He joins MiQ from the Woodland Hills outpost of New York advertising firm Cast Iron Media.

“As a client-focused professional passionate about delivering business outcomes, I’m thrilled to join MiQ and contribute to its mission of driving results through innovative, AI-powered omnichannel agnostic platforms,” Barnet said in a statement. “I’m really looking forward to engaging with the newly-launched MiQ Sigma, which gives clients a powerful advantage.”

From MiQ’s offices in Playa Vista, Barnet will focus on new customer acquisitions, particularly in media and entertainment, automative, travel and finance. MiQ Sigma is an artificial intelligence-powered platform recently deployed by the company.

“I’m grateful Andy agreed to join us to lead our West operation,” said Marion Hargett, MiQ’s U.S. chief revenue officer. “I’ve had the opportunity to work with him a few times in my career, and I know that his leadership, combined with our agnostic approach to adtech and the power of our new AI-driven platform, MiQ Sigma, will enable us to deliver truly customized solutions for our clients.”

Comedian Ken Jeong will be honored with the King of Comedy Award at the Catalina Island Film Festival in September.

It’s the 15th year for the film festival, which is held in the Avalon Theatre at the Catalino Casino. Jeong will receive the award during the Milestone Anniversary and Awards Ceremony on Sept. 27.

A trained physician, Jeong also developed a stand-up comedy career and became a Hollywood staple thanks to roles like the unhinged Señor Chang in “Community,” which was based on creator Dan Harmon’s experiences at Glendale Community College, as well as Goh Wye Mun, an eccentric father in the film “Crazy Rich Asians.”
