Fuller Seminary, a nondenominational seminary in Pasadena, received a $10 million grant last month from Lilly Endowment Inc., a philanthropy based in Indiana. The grant will be used to create the TENx10 Faith and Service Project which will aid Christian organizations that serve youth.

Fuller is one of 12 organizations to receive funding through Lilly Endowment’s National Youth and Young Adult Initiative on Faith and Service.

“Fuller is honored to be part of Lilly Endowment’s new Faith and Service Initiative through our TENx10 Collaboration,” Kara Powell, executive director of the Fuller Youth Institute and Fuller’s chief of leadership formation, said in a statement. “Today’s young people are eager to make a difference, and we can’t wait to see how God works through TENx10 and our partners to see this creative and innovative generation impact our world.”

Also late last month, Beverly Grove-based Cedars-Sinai Health System received a $10 million gift to create the David and Meredith Kaplan Presidential Chair.

The hospital’s president and chief executive, Peter Slavin, is the inaugural holder of the chair. Slavin took the helm of the hospital last year after longtime chief executive Thomas Priselac retired.

“The David and Meredith Kaplan Foundation fully supports the direction Dr. Slavin is taking to elevate existing health care enterprises and brainstorm new ones,” David Kaplan, co-founder of global investment management company Ares Management Corp. and chair of the Cedars-Sinai Board of Directors, said of the gift.

Cedars-Sinai also recently got a $9 million gift from Todd Morgan and the Morgan family to expand its Emergency Department. Morgan is a founding member of investment firm Bel Air Investment Advisors and a lifetime member of Cedars-Sinai’s Board of Trustees.

The contribution names The Todd M. Morgan Family Lobby.

“My entire family and I understand the escalating need for adequate resources to meet demand in the Emergency Department,” Morgan said. “We want to aid in that effort.”
