Los Angeles Business Journal Editor Scott Robson

The Business Journal, as you know if you’re reading this in print or on one of our digital formats, remains open for your business.

We’ve even taken additional steps to ensure you can access the Business Journal on the platform that works best for you during these trying times. We’ve removed limitations on usage across our website. We’ve fully opened the digital version of our weekly print issues. And if you need to change your delivery address, please reach out to us by phone (855-293-9394) or email ([email protected]).

These moves were made without hesitation by both the editorial and business sides of the house. Because in these extraordinary times, we believe that information is one currency we all need to trade openly.

Business, while altered in many ways, continues to move forward. As you can see from this week’s issue, there are big real estate deals being closed (a $500 million fund created by MJW Investments). There are tech companies raising money (RCT Studio and Robin Games Inc., among them). And there’s a certain high-profile streaming service created by iconic Hollywood media mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg that’s still on track to roll out in early April (welcome to the club, Quibi).

And while it’s good news that the federal government has moved to support the nation with a $2 trillion initiative, we’re also heartened by the ways businesses throughout Los Angeles are giving back during this trying period.

For instance, Netflix Inc., which has a substantial footprint in Hollywood, created a $100 million relief fund to help members of the creative community who’ve been sidelined by the coronavirus. And the Commerce Hotel and Casino announced that it will pay all employees while the casino is closed.

Even our sports stars are stepping up. No matter what you think about the new Los Angeles Rams logo, you can’t help but admire quarterback Jared Goff and lineman Andrew Whitworth, who donated 2 million meals to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. (The Rams also raised $2.2 million in a telethon to support Covid-19 efforts).
