Los Angeles Community College District, The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation and the California Community Foundation have launched the Building Outstanding Opportunities for Students to Thrive (BOOST) program, which will provide $3 million in unrestricted monthly payments to LACCD students pursuing health careers.
It will provide $1,000 per month for a year to 250 students at East LA College, LA City College, LA Trade-Technical College and LA Southwest College.
“Over the past several decades, pathways to good jobs have become longer and more challenging to navigate,” Gerun Riley, president of The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation, said in a statement. “BOOST will accelerate and strengthen the credentialing process for young people pursuing careers in the medical field, benefiting students and their families while also addressing health care labor shortages.”
Miguel Santana, president and chief executive of the California Community Foundation added that BOOST was “breaking down barriers for students to enter meaningful and rewarding careers in health care, paving the way for their long-term success.”
“We are proud to support investments in education and workforce development, which are the building blocks of opportunity for our students and, in the health care field, also support the wellbeing of the communities they will go on to serve,” he added.

It’s been a busy few weeks for the Los Angeles Kings off the ice.
The team has partnered with Ironworkers Local 433, marking the team’s first collaboration with a union.
The partnership includes an immersive VR experience showing the life of an Ironworker and an Ironworkers Local 433 Title Night in January.
“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Ironworkers Local 433 into the LA Kings family,” LA Kings President Luc Robitaille said. “This is a historic partnership that highlights common traits that we both share.”
Also this month, the Kings unveiled the Hockeywood Wall of Fame, an installation by Mercury Insurance and the LA Kings.
