LABJ Insider: Women Making History
Stephanie Barbaran, Los Angeles Business Journal Interim Editor

As the nation celebrates Women’s History Month in March, the best and brightest women are making a huge impact in putting together some of the largest deals in Los Angeles commercial real estate.

The Business Journal’s 27th annual Commercial Real Estate Symposium & Awards event was a two-part virtual series held over the past two weeks. The program honored the brokers of the most notable transactions in L.A. and recognized each award-winning project’s developer, architect and general contractor. Finalists and honorees, including many women, were recognized for real estate projects in hospitality, multifamily, retail, medical, industrial, office and community impact categories.

Brokerage Executive of the Year went to Jodie Poirer, executive managing director, Colliers, for example. In 2020, Poirier became the first woman to oversee operations across the Greater Los Angeles region for a leading commercial real estate company. As the company’s market leader, she’s responsible for nearly 300 professionals across nine offices throughout Los Angeles County, Orange County and the Inland Empire.

The silver award for land deals went to an all-women team at CBRE. The honorees included Barbara Perrier, Darla Longo and Lynn Knox for the sale of the almost 90-acre Reliance Business Park.

JLL’s Shauna Mattis led the team that handled the 87,000-square-foot lease of Sherman Oaks Galleria, honored in the Best Retail Lease category.

Sharing the silver award for the Best Medical Sale Deal, Newmark’s Laura Stumm was part of the team responsible for the sale of a five-story medical office building in Beverly Hills.
Leaders like many women honored across these and other categories at the event set a great example for how to not only get the job done but also lift up team members and advance industry standards in the process.
