Eric Long has been elevated to Structural Engineering Partner. During his two-plus decades at SOM, Eric has worked in regions of high seismicity around the world, at all scales, from tall towers to museums, embassies, retrofits, and works of art. With a keen focus on constructability and rigorous collaboration, he devises technologically advanced and sustainability-driven structural systems that are ultimately easy to execute. Eric leads the West Coast structural practice for the firm and splits his time between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Notable projects include: 1 Hotel West Hollywood, the Billie Jean King Main Library in Long Beach and the United States Federal Courthouse in Downtown Los Angeles. Currently, Eric is collaborating with Peter Zumthor on LACMA’s New Building for the Permanent Collection.
Dan Herman has been promoted to Managing Principal. Dan began his career at SOM’s New York office before returning to his hometown of LA. Throughout his 20 years of experience, Dan has focused on infill and densification through mixed-use development. His LA portfolio includes: 1 Hotel West Hollywood, 8500 Sunset Boulevard, 100 West Walnut, 1111 Sunset Boulevard, the Desmond Building in Downtown Los Angeles and Pen Factory
in Santa Monica. Outside of California, he is leading LSMU projects in Austin, Houston and Dallas, and the development of a major film studio on Toronto’s waterfront. Dan has served on the design faculty at USC and is currently a Director on the Board of the AIA Los Angeles.
