KATHERINE V.A. SMITH
Partner and Co-Chair of the Labor
and Employment Practice Group
Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP
A co-chair of Gibson Dunn’s Labor and Employment Practice Group, Smith has extensive experience representing employers in individual, representative and class action litigation at both the trial court and appellate level. Smith is also in demand by clients needing guidance regarding nearly all aspects of employment law, including government investigations, enforcement of non-solicitation and non-competition covenants, and independent contractor/common law employee status.
Among her recent successes, Smith obtained a significant victory on behalf of Amazon when the Eastern District of California recommended denial of class certification of a putative class of more than 200,000 former and current non-exempt Amazon associates. The Court rejected six of plaintiffs’ eleven proposed classes. Smith also scored a significant victory for Lowe’s Home Centers by obtaining an order in arbitration.
