L.A. Care Health Plan, the nation’s largest publicly operated health plan, is pleased to announce a new Chairperson for its Board of Governors and a new Board member. Al Ballesteros, MBA, the President and CEO of JWCH Institute, Inc., an L.A. based Federally Qualified Health Center, is the new Board Chair. He first joined the Board in 2016, L.A. Care also welcomes L.A. County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis to the Board. Before her election to the Board of Supervisors, Solis served as the Secretary of Labor under President Obama. This is a return to L.A. Care for Solis, who previously served on the Board in 2015 and 2016. L.A. Care is also announcing other Board assignments. Ilan Shapiro, MD, the Chief Health Correspondent and Medical Affairs Officer At AltaMed Health Services, is moving from Board Treasurer to Vice Chairperson. Stephanie Booth, MD, a certified pediatrician, is moving from Board Secretary to Treasurer. John Raffoul, President of Adventist Health White Memorial, will assume the role of Board Secretary. L.A. Care’s Board members are committed to the health and well-being of L.A. County’s low-income populations.
