The average daily rate for a hotel in L.A. County in 2018 was $180.17, up 2.4% from 2017, according to the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board. That’s well over the national average of $129.83 a night. Occupancy, meanwhile, was 79.6%, down 0.4%, which could be attributed to the nearly 2,000 additional rooms in the marketplace. Revenue per available room was $143.49 on average, amounting to a 1.9% year-over-year increase. Nationally, revenue per available room was $85.96 last year, and occupancy was at 66.2%.
VISITOR IMPACT
In 2018, L.A. welcomed 50 million visitors, up 3.1% from 2017, according to the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board. The number of international visitors rose 3.6% to 7.5 million, with an all-time high number of visitors from China — 1.2 million, a 6.9% increase from 2017. The visitors bureau credited the growth to an increase in international seat capacity at Los Angeles International Airport and additional hotel rooms, restaurants and tourism campaigns.

People flocked to L.A. in 2018. Los Angeles World Airports had 87.6 million passengers in 2018, up 3.5% over 2017, according to LAWA. There were 61.5 million domestic passengers, up 3.1% and 26 million international passengers, up 4.5%.
