Packing and delivery company UPS has bid on a former Boeing manufacturing site in Long Beach, the company told the Business Journal Wednesday. The site could bring 2,500 jobs to the area.

The site, which is roughly 93 acres, has a 1.1 million-square-foot building. It was formerly a Boeing C-17 Globemaster cargo plane manufacturing plant.

“The location is great for us and we can utilize the existing buildings,” said Bruce MacRae, a Long Beach native and UPS VP of State Public Policy, in a statement. “We are invested in the community and plan to bring jobs and improve the economy for years to come.”

UPS will invest roughly $300 million in the facility, which would be a regional service hub. UPS would not say how much it bid for the site.
