Buzz: West Elm’s 11,200-square-foot store located on the ground floor of the Broadway Palace apartments features 22 California-based makers and offers

pop-ups and workshops hosted by local artists and businesses.

Theory

Buzz: The 1,500-square-foot design for the upscale clothes designer references

the streetscape with its use of concrete walls and industrial metal, and is designed to showcase new product initiatives, collaborations and promotional events.

Gentle Monster

Buzz: Gentle Monster, the chic Korean eyewear designer, features eye candy

with art installations inside their store housed in the Wurlitzer Building.

Apple Flagship Store

802 S. Broadway

Buzz: Apple will soon open at the Tower Theatre, where the first talkie movies

were shown. The company has focused on creating a “town square” appeal at

its stores and has said its new store will showcase this model.

Broadway Trade Center

801 S. Broadway

Buzz: New York investor Waterbridge Capital purchased the 1907 beaux-arts building that once housed Hamburger department store and later May Co.

There are plans to turn the bottom two floors into 200,000 square feet of luxury retail and restaurant space.

Vans Store

808 S. Broadway

Buzz: Vans will be housed at the Old Singer Sewing Building owned by Anjac Fashion Buildings. Sandwiched between the Tower and Rialto theaters, owner Steve Needleman said he brought in

the SoCal shoemaker because it offered more than just merchandise on a shelf.
